Funny Fatigued Feline Pawrents Offer Their Hissterically Comedic Counsel On How To Keep Your Cheeky Cats Off The Kitchen Counter

When you adopt a cat, you should be ready to sacrifice a few important things, for example, any concept of purrsonal space, going to the bathroom alone, and essentially the deed to your house. One of the smaller things you may have to give up is having a cat-free kitchen counter, as cats pawsitively love seeing what you're up to at every second of the day, especially when you're in a place where food is involved! No one likes to clean up paw prints before you cook every day, so one Redditor took to the interwebz and asked their fellow feline fanatics if they had any tips and tricks. Spoiler alert, they didn't!

What they did have, however, were some absolutely hissterical comedic counsel on how to accept the fact that once you have a counter cat, you have to live with one.     Oof, these two look like serious troublemakers! Those are some daftly defiant counter cats if we ever saw some. Good luck convincing those to do anything they don't want to do. You can try with a clicker, with treats, with long, disapproving stares, but we're pretty sure you're fighting a losing battle.

    The best part about this comment is the end where they reveal that in this pic their cat is actually defying the truce. That cold stare of disapproval - this cat doesn't give one hoot about your countertop rules and they're letting you know it.

If he was close enough to the fridge, he'd make a mad dash to climb it before I grabbed him. If he made it, he was safe, but if I caught him he wouldn't try again for at least another 20min. He knew his spots, and I'd only allow his front paws on the counter while his back paws were on a chair because that's what gentleman-kitties do.

Then I recently got a male kitten, with a lot of energy- right away he was jumping up on my kitchen counters. Putting a tall cat tree in the corner (long, thin, kitchen) where they could see what was happening on the counter, without being on the counter. Then using clicker training to teach them to sit on it whilst I cooked.

Tell cat firmly "no" and remove. After a while they will learn that they are not allowed to be on the counters if you can see them. Step two: always assume the cat has been on the counter and clean it before using.

He wouldn't dare get up on the counters or scratch the furniture while someone is awake, but when we all go to sleep the kitten in him comes out and I find water bottles on the floor, my living room rug half way across the floor and he's resting peacefully on the new furniture like a darling little baby that could never do any wrong. Many months later, they never get on the counter when I'm around, and I don't find evidence of them having been there when I'm not. That's good enough for me.

I'm saying this based on my experience with birds nesting on my property. I moved their empty nest away, they didn't like that and came back everyday.
